Description
Gotu Kola tea, also known as Indian Pennywort, is a perennial herb that is regarded as a staple in traditional Chinese, Indonesian, and Ayurvedic medicine. This herb is often used in beverages such as juice or tea, but can also be eaten raw, dried, sauteed, or pickled. A member of the parsley family, Gotu Kola has a mildly sweet and bitter flavor. It is often accompanied by ginger, lemongrass, lime, or garlic to enhance its flavor.
This herb is full of many essential nutrients, such as Vitamins A and C, iron, and more. There is early research supporting the use of Gotu Kola for circulation and many users report and relaxing effect.
It is often noted that ancient healers in China used this herb as a traditional medicine, with the intention of improving memory and brain function- also citing the herb to have the ability to enhance male vigor. In other parts of Asia, such as Sri Lanka and Malaysia, this herb was traditionally used to provide long life and fight bacterial diseases and inflammation. An appreciation for the herb’s ability to bring tranquility and sedation grew, thus, the nickname “fountain of life” came to be, as the legends of what this tea can provide made it a staple of many monks and holy men to guide them through their meditations.
To brew Gotu Kola, add 1-2 teaspoons of leaves to an infuser, such as our 12oz Tea Pot. Add hot water, the temperature is up to personal preference. Brew for 5-10 minutes, with longer brew times resulting in a stronger cup of tea.
